In association with the Ant Collection, I am able to offer walking trails in the beautiful and rugged Lapalala Wilderness in the Waterberg Mountains.
Based at the Lookout Lodge, a rustic tented luxury lodge situated high on a ridge with a panoramic view of the wilderness, the walking trails explore the vast wilderness area on foot, traveling through the Waterberg mountain. The Waterberg is characterised by sour bushveld, ancient sandstone cliffs, and deep valleys and gorges through which the crystal clear Palala and Blocklands rivers and other mountain streams flow. The rivers are unique with beautiful riverine vegetation and animal life. The walking trails are also about enjoying all the sounds, signs and ambiance of the wilderness, big and small.
This is a relatively unexplored wilderness which seductively invites guests to sample its beauty and explore its vastness. Safe sections in the rivers allow guests to cool off while on a trail and Lookout Lodge has a plunge pool with a view in which to relax at the end of a hard day.
The walking safaris operate for groups of 6 guests for a minimum of 3 nights.
Lapalala Wilderness is a 36,000 hectare privately-owned nature reserve, situated in the mountains of the Waterberg.
The reserve was founded in 1981 and is now a part of the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, the first region in the northern part of South Africa to be declared as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.
The wilderness is bisected by 2 rivers with spectacular steep gorges and sandstone cliffs towering above the pools and rapids of the rivers. The rivers cut through the vast bushveld landscape which stretches away to the horizon. The reserve is home to animals such as buffalo, hippo, giraffe, crocodile, leopard, baboons and many species of antelope.
